Speedy Romeo:
Wood-Fired and Unpretentious
In 2018, he opened Oxomoco in Greenpoint, a modern Mexican restaurant that earned a Michelin star for its vibrant, wood-fired take on regional dishes. His third project, Xilonen, explored plant-based Mexican cuisine and received a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide before closing in 2022. Across every concept, Justin’s focus remains the same: build welcoming spaces, cook with clarity, and let fire lead the way.
From Kansas City
to Jean-Georges
Originally from Kansas City, Justin moved to New York in 2001 to attend the French Culinary Institute, launching a career that took him from the kitchens of Jean-Georges to chef-trainer roles around the world. In 2011, he opened Speedy Romeo in Brooklyn—a laid-back spot blending American and Italian flavors, all cooked over open flame.
